Study and Improvement on Thermal Performance Testing of Plate Heat Exchanger

The reliable thermal performance data plays a key role in the selection of plate heat exchanger in order to match the variety of different application purposes. However, there are still some challenges in testing the plate heat exchangers to obtain the accurate thermal performance data. This may lead to poor selection of the plate heat exchanger either oversize or undersize. This paper compares the major testing and data processing methods theoretically and experimentally. Based on the direct derivation method, a new method, deducted by equal velocity method, was developed. It can be applied to not only equal velocity condition but also unequal velocity condition. The experiment results show that this method is superior to other methods and provides more reliable thermal performance data.
