Adaptive MMSE Receiver Based DS-UWB Indoor Transmission Scheme

In ultra-wideband (UWB) indoor dense multi-path transmission environments, traditional coherent Rake receiver requires estimation of channel parameters. Moreover, in order to collect enough signal energy from dense multi-path components, the number of Rake fingers must be large enough. Consequently, the receiver structure is too complex to be implemented in practice. However, we know that adaptive signal detection performs well in DS-CDMA systems due to its simple algorithm and robustness of anti-interference. In this paper, we propose an indoor high data rate wireless link scheme based on adaptive minimum mean square error (MMSE) receiver for DS-UWB transmission. Its bit error rate (BER) performance is analyzed under the newly proposed IEEE 802.15.3a UWB indoor channel model. Simulation results show that, nearly without loss of BER performance compared with the traditional Rake receiver scheme, the proposed scheme requires no channel estimation and, therefore, is simpler in structure and easier for implementation.
