Potential Evaluation of Urban Land Intensive Use Based on IKONOS

The land is one of the non-renewable resources. The intensive use of the urban land has become very important no matter whether it aims at the protection of the land resources, urban development, rational allocation of the urban land, or the mode of economic growth optimization. A method system to evaluate intensive urban land use based on RS and the integrated evaluation model is constructed in this paper. The integrated evaluation model consists of macroscopic evaluation and medium or microscopic evaluation. The result of evaluation reveals the level of intensive land use and use potential. This method system is applied in this paper to evaluate the intensive land use in Shijiazhuang City. And in the paper it is established the index system of the intensive land use evaluation in the city. RS is the primary data source in this system. Combined with the data secured from the investigation and by analyzing the characteristics of the remote sensing image (IKONOS), therefore, the type of urban land use can be interpreted according to the method of RS interpretation. Then the grade changes method is used to standardize the calculation indicators, while the Delphi method is adopted to determine the index weight. And finally, the intensive land utilization synthetic index is worked out according to the multi-factor weighted method. In this way, the macroscopic evaluation results show that the land-use in Shijiazhuang City is appropriate, but some indicators’ levels are too high while some others’ are too low, from which many problems are reflected. In contrast, microscopic evaluation reveals that the intensive land use degree of Qiaodong district’s commercial, industrial land is higher. A small amount of evaluation units of residential land even belong to excessive use. This research has proved that this kind of evaluation method can be more time-effective, more practical, more convenient. Indeed, the appraisal result is more objective and more realistic.
