The Physical Properties of Phthalazinone-based Sulfonated Poly(Ether Ketone Ketone)s PEM for Fuel Cell Application

A series of phthalazinone-based sulfonated poly (ether ketone ketone)s (SPPFEKKs) were synthesized by direct nucleophilic polycondensation reaction. The ion exchange capability (IEC), water uptake, swelling ratio, proton conductivity (σ ), water and oxidative stability of the membranes were also investigated. The results demonstrated that with increasing of the DS, the IEC, water uptake and swelling ratio increased, while the oxidative stability decreased. The SPPFEKKs had good hydrolytic stability and high proton conductivity. The proton conductivity of the SPPFEKKs increased with the DS and the temperature. At 95 ℃, the proton conductivity of SPPFEKK-120 (DS=1.2) was 1.0 ×10 -1 S/cm, which was similar to that of Nafion117.
