Surface Thermodynamics of N-Alkylimidazalium Room Temperature Ionic Liquids
The surface tensions of a series of closely related ionic liquids based on 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium with two kinds of fluorinated anions ( BF-4 and PF-6) were measured with a Wilhelmy plate apparatus in the temperature range from 293 to 338K.The uncertainties of measurements for the temperature and surface tension were estimated to be within ±0.5K and ±0.15mN/m, respectively. The experimental surface tension data show a linear decrease with increasing temperature allowing a separation of the surface excess entropy and energy components.
