Kinetics of The Liquid Phase Decomposition of Methyl tert-Butyl Ether for Isobutene over Ion-exchange Resin Catalysts
The reaction kinetics of the liquid phase decomposition of methyl tert-butyl ether for isobutene using a macroporous sulfonic acid ion exchange resin as catalyst is investigated experimentally in a slurry reactor with the temperature in a range of 343 ~373K. In order to eliminate the effects of internal diffusion and external diffusion, the experiments are conducted at high agitation speed and the fine grained catalysts are used. The experimental results are analyzed by using heterogeneous models based on Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism, the model parameters are obtained. The calculated data from the presented heterogeneous model agree well with the experimental results. The model correlates the kinetics of MTBE liquid phase decomposition satisfactorily as below:()
