Preparation of PMMA-AA/MMT nanocomposite pervaporation membrane
In this paper, the organic-MMT was prepared using an ion-exchange reaction between the montmorillonite silicate layers and cetyltrimethylammomium bromide (CTAB), which can be proved by wide-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD). Poly (methyl methacrylate-co-acrylic cid)/montmorillonite nanocomposite was prepared by in-situ polymerization, a flat pervaporation membrane was prepared by casting a PMMA-AA/MMT solution of tetrahydrofuran(THF) on PAN ultrafiltration membrane. Property of and dispersion of MMT within PMMA-PBMA were investigated by means of FTIR and XRD, results show that MMT layers were exfoliated from PMMA-AA matrix. The swelling properties of the membrane in xylene and effect of ratio of MMA and AA 、MMT content on separation properties were investigated. It was found that the separation properties of membrane can improve greatly by add proper content of MMT in PMMA-PAA matrix. Compared with the pure PMMA-PAA membrane, the separation factor for p-/m-xylene is 1.284 and the corresponding flux values is 245.6 g/ (m 2 .h) for a 10 wt. % feed p-xylene concentration at 30 o C.
