Catalytic combustion of methane over supported manganese oxide catalysts
Supported manganese oxide catalysts for methane catalytic combustion were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method, and the effects of support (Al2O3, SiO2 and TiO2) and Mn loading were investigated. These catalysts were characterized with N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed reduction techniques. Methane conversions vary over a large range depending on the supports and Mn loadings, Al2O3 supported 15% Mn catalyst is found to be the highest activity towards methane oxidation. The existent state of manganese and oxygen species are found to play an important role in catalytic activities of supported manganese catalysts.
