Application of Cationic Starch in Eco-friendly Dyeing Process of Reactive Dyes
In this paper, starch derivative —cationic starch was employed in modification of cotton, and the modified fabrics were dyed with 3 reactive dyes in the absence of salt. Phenol-sulphuric acid method was chosen for quantitative analysis of the amount of cationic starch pretreated on cotton. Two kinds of pretreatment procedures —dip-rinsing and dip-pad-baking processes were respectively selected for cotton modification and the corresponding adsorption amount of cationic starch and dyeing results were compared. The results showed that dip-pad–baking procedure was superior to dip-rinsing one. And when the concentration of the cationic starch solution is 1.50-2.25%, pH is 7.0 and viscosity is about 10mpa.s, the fixation of the dyes could reach satisfactory results compared with that in conventional dyeing. The obtained fastness property results presented that wash fastness of salt-free dyeing was excellent. Although rub fastness was a little affected, it could meet the need for application. But light fastness decreased 1-2 grade which needed to be improved by further research.
