A Novel Fouling Suppression System in Membrane Bioreactors by Usage of Intermittent Electric Field
We have successfully developed a novel membrane bioreactor system combined with the use of intermittent electric field in order to suppress membrane fouling caused by activated sludge. We proposed the use of electric field to move away the negatively-charged sludge on the membrane only when permeate flux was declined due to membrane fouling. The results indicated that it had a significant influence on the recovery of the permeation flux to apply 6 V/cm of electric field even when the membrane fouling proceed to decrease the flux drastically.
