CHEMICAL RECYCLING OF COMPOSITE PLASTICS WITH SUB- AND SUPERCRITICAL WATER

We investigated the optimum condition to decompose composite plastics for chemical recycling. First, the treatment of the laminate film consisting of nylon-6 and polyethylene layers was carried out with water at high temperature and pressure. Nylon-6 layer decomposed to ε -caprolactam monomer with the yield of 94% and, at the same time, polyethylene layer was recovered as pure polyethylene with the yield of 95% at 330 o C, 12.9MPa(saturated vapor pressure of water) and 30min. On the other hand, the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) was treated with water at high temperature and pressure. As a result, the plastic decomposed and the clean carbon fiber was recovered easily.
