The Database on the Origin of Silkworm Genetic Resources in Japan
We built the database on the silkworm races maintained as genetic resources in Japan. The database has already been opened on the Web site (Japanese; http://www.nias.affrc.go.jp/nises/nises/db.html, English; http://www.nias.affrc.go.jp/nises/nises/db- eng.html). The items of characteristics in the database are 23. The image data are 4 items. And whats more, we built the database on the origins of the preserved silkworm races. So, we present the database on these origins. The number of the origin of silkworm races is as follows: Japanese native races are 38, Japanese improved races 35, Chinese native races 23, Chinese improved races 54, European native races 15, European improved races 18, Tropical race 1, Molting races 10, Mutant race(Egg character) 1, respectively. We compiled the information on the origins of silkworm races by referring to History of Modem Silkworm Races Breeding (Eikichi HIRATSUKA, 1961) and Genealogy of Japanese Silkworm Races for Practical Use (Eikichi HIRATSUKA, 1969).
