Chemical Compositions and Morphologies of Ornithoctonus HuwennaSpider Dragline Silk
Ornithoctonus huwenna spider is a kind of toxic spider that can be bred in mass production, which toxin can be made into medicine etc. Ornithoctonus huwenna spider dragline silk is also a sort of protein silk fiber, so its potential applications should be fully paid attention. The chemical compositions, morphologies and thermal performance of Ornithoctonus huwenna spider dragline silk were discussed and analyzed in the article by means of amino acid analysis, FT-IR, X-ray diffraction, SEM and TG testing. The results indicated that the spider dragline silk with velvet surface and nano-scale diameters contained much more alanine, serine but with less glycine by comparing to other spider dragline silk. The molecular conformations were α-helix and random coil as well as notable β-sheet structure. Otherwise, Ornithoctonus huwenna spider dragline silk had higher crystal degree and thermal resistance than that of Araneus ventricosus dragline silk.
