Structure and Performance of B. mori Silk Treated with Chitosan Nanoparticle
Chitosan nanoparticle has advantages of both the chitosan and the nano particles, and so it has a wide application in many fields. In this paper, the chitosan nanoparticles were prepared by ionotropic gelation method successfully and then used to modify B. mori silk fibers. And the structure and mechanical property of the treated silk yarn are investigated. The results show that the average diameter of chitosan nanoparticles was 34.26nm in the aqueous dispersion system. Flourier Transform Infrared (FT- IR) spectra indicated that the conformation of B. mori silk transformed to (β-sheet after chitosan nanoparticles dispersion solution treatment. The crystallinity of the treated silk fiber increased, as well as the thermodynamic stability. It is also found that chitosan nanoparticles contribute to enhance the mechanical properties of silk fiber.
