Improving Functionality of Korean Paper (Hanji)
Recently, there are some attempts to use Hanji as the textile material for the fashionable apparels and widely household products. However, the use of papers as the apparel fabric is limited, because the paper has low wet strength, no elastic properties, poor dimensional stability, and low dye uptake. Thus, Hanji is treated with polycarboxylic acid and chitosan, for improving wet strength and dimensional stability, antibacterial activity. Polycarboxylic acids have been used in durable press finishing of cellulosic fibers. Then introduction of carboxylic group to the cellulosic components of paper could improve the interaction between berberine and wood cellulose, could increased the uptake of mordant.
