Mechanical Properties of Casein-acrylonitrile Graft Copolymer fiber
FTIR analysis was used to understand the chemical composition of casein-acrylonitrile graft copolymer fiber (AN-g-casein fiber). The study indicated that the fiber contained milk protein. The primary mechanical properties of the fiber were measured. The results showed that AN-g-casein fiber had moderate tensile strength and initial modulus and high elongation. The wet AN-g-casein fiber had slightly higher tensile strength, lower elongation and lower initial modulus than the dry fiber. There were no significant variations in fibers tensile strength and elongation while initial modulus decreased after NaHCO3/Na<,2>2CO<,3>/NaOH treatment. The crimp elastic recovery of AN-g-casein fiber approached to that of PAN fiber. And its friction coefficients were higher than that of PAN fiber.
