Influence of Alkali Pretreatment on Selective Oxidation of Cotton Fiber
Pretreatment for cotton fiber by sodium hydrate is proposed in this paper. The contrast of the structure and performance of cotton fiber with or without alkali pretreatment selective oxidised by sodium periodate was carried out.The results show that the cellulose crystals were transformed from cellulose Ⅰ to Ⅱ structure gradually after alkali pretreatment from low to high concentration, which improved the reactivity of cotton fiber with sodium periodate. Compared with the ones without pretreatment, the aldehyde group content of oxidized cotton samples with alkali pretreatment obviously increased. Under the same oxidization by 8g/l Na104 for cotton fiber, the increasing concentration of alkali enhanced the degradation degree of the crystalline region of oxidized cotton samples.
