Autonomous DNA computer and its ap plication to genetic diagnosis
A DNA computer is a bio-inspired machine that manipulates information by employing DNA molecular reactions. DNA is a unique molecule in its ability to autonomously make a copy of its strands with a high fidelity. Because of this property of DNA biological systems use DNA to store genetic information The unique property of DNA also allows us to use DNA for computations. In 1994 a small instance of Hamiltonian Path problems was actually solved with DNA. In the computation the massive parallelism of DNA molecular reactions was emphasized, so that a DNA computer was born as a parallel computer that might exceed electronic computers. However, much attention is currently focused on another remarkable feature of DNA computer, namely, a direct interface with biological molecules. This feature will expand the potential of DNA computer for application to biotechnology and nanotechnology.
