Geochemical Characteristics of the Quaternary Sediments in the Lushan Area: Implications for Paleoenvironmental Change
Variation of geochemical characteristics of Quaternary sediments is one of the most useful methods to infer paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes. The authors firstly determinate the concentrations of trace elements and major elements of the Quaternary strata in Lushan area, and calculate the ratios of some oxide and the increase and loss of each weathering coefficient, eluviating value and accumulating value of some oxide, as well as the ratio change of high valence iron to the low valence iron. Based on these geochemical parameters, we estimate successfully the fluctuation of relative paleotemperature for each geological period during Quaternary, suggesting that the Lushan area has formed the alternate cold-dry and warm-wet paleoclimatic evolution pattern since Quaternary. From the view of sedimentary geochemistry, it is confirmed that the Lushan area once had glacial activities during Quaternary, which powerfully supports the Lushan has experienced once alternate glacial and interglacial climate since Quaternary.
