SUSTAINABILITY OF TIMBER BRIDGES-THE MAGIC TRIANGLE DIRECTIONAL DRAWINGS-MAINTENANCE COSTS-LIFETIME
In Germany, thousands of traffic bridges are being built and replaced every year. Not only the Government prefers standard structures and details for cost-saving reasons, but also road construction authorities. But directional drawings for civil engineering timber constructions, which are the daily working basis, do not exist. Therefore, 39 directional drawings have been developed for timber bridges. In view of constructive timber protection, so far 11 drawings have been worked out especially for timber constructions. Further 28 drawings for details were developed. There will be given an overview of these directional drawings as well as information in detail-always in reference to bridges in the alpine countries, that still exists. In this connection, lifetime and maintenance costs-a field research project from the author-build the magic triangle.
