ABILITY AND DESIGN OF INCLINED STIFFENER IN PANEL ZONE

The codes and the specifications in steel structure field in China say the bearing ability of shear force in panel zone must be sufficient; otherwise the inclined stiffener should be applied. But all of the criterions have no formula on how to design the inclined stiffener and the panel zone with inclined stiffener. To resolve the problem this paper analyzed the post-buckling behaviors of panel zone with inclined stiffener models, which concerned different geometric factors, in finite element method analysis. An equal model of penal zone with inclined stiffener is found, with which design formula of panel zone with inclined stiffener and the inclined stiffener in gabled frames is established.
