EXPERIMENT OF HIGH STRENGTH COLD-FORMED THIN-WALL STEEL AXIALLY COMPRESSED COLUMNS AND ITS ANALYSES BY DIRECT STRENGTH METHOD
The experimental results of 62 high strength cold- formed thin-wall steel axially compressed columns are introduced. The bearing capacities of the specimens are calculated by newly developed design method named Direct Strength Method (DSM). By the comparison of test and calculated results, the method which calculates the bearing capacities of high strength cold-formed thin-wall steel axially compressed columns by reduced yield strength 0.85 f<,y> and stability coefficient ψ from the stability coefficient table of Q235 in Chinese Specification GB50018 according to revised ratio of length to slenderness λ<,c>=λ√0. 85f<,y>/235 is suggested. The calculated results by the suggested method agree well with test results.
