NONLINEAR ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE OF IMPROVED PLASTIC HINGE METHODS FOR STEEL FRAMES
Improved plastic hinge methods based on the simple plastic hinge method are simplified advanced analysis methods. They can consider the second order effects of the whole structure and its members geometric imperfections, residual stress, flexural-torsional buckling, spread-of-plasticity effects as well as the feature of semi-rigid connections. Improved plastic hinge methods typically employ only one beam-column element per member for global frame analysis, and are computationally more efficient and economical. The techniques associated with the dealing of different inelastic factors in advanced analysis with improved plastic hinge methods and the available way to extend planar frame analysis to space fame analysis are reviewed in detail. The possible development trend and the deficiencies of these methods are al so presented, aiming to provide some theoretical references for research on integral analysis and design of steel frame structures.
