MODAL ANALYSIS OF CIVIL STRUCTURES BASED ON OUT-PUT ONLY DATA
For civil structures, it is important to identify modal properties of structures based on out-put only data. In this paper, an overview of the advanced Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) and the Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) methods is given. The two methods are utilized via dedicated software ARTeMIS for the experimental modal analysis of the IASC-ASCE SHM experimental phase II problem and the Four Seasons building based on out-put only measurement data. The modal estimates obtained from the vibration tests of the two structures using these two methods are compared. It is shown that the EFDD and SSI are powerful methods that provide accurate estimates of natural frequencies and mode shapes of structures. Theses two alternative methods should be applied together to ensure reliable modal identification of civil structures base on out-put only data.
