THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH ON THE LONG-PERIOD WAVES OF GROUND MOTION

The study of long-period waves of ground motions is significant to seismic design of large-scale engineering structures. The major researches in long- period ground motion recently in the world are classified and discussed in this paper. They can be divided into two approaches: statistical methods and seismological methods. The research status and difficulties of each method are pointed out. The problems badly in need of being solved of the range of long-period ground motion in research and application are put forward at last based on the discussion in the paper.
