TEST STUDY OF TOP AND SEAT ANGLE CONNECTIONS TO THE WEAK AXIS

The research to the semi-rigid joints of beam-to- column is mainly concentrate to their strong axis connections. Three types of semi-rigid beam-to-column joints are put forward which connect the beam to the column along weak axis direction using top and seat angles. One way of the connections is joint the beam to the column web plate directly through top and seat angles, the other way is welding end plate to the lateral surface of the column flanges and the beam is connected to the plate. These connecting manners are convenient to site construction using high strength bolts and angles. Test study under the static load to these connections is done to obtain there static behavior and damage mechanism. The initial connecting stiffness, the ultimate bearing capacity, and the moment-rotation curve of the joints are achieved. The model of Kishi-Chen power function is used to fit the test results, and the fitted parameters are deter- mined. The bearing capacity and moment-rotation curve comparisons between the welding end plate connections with top and seat angles indicate the merits of the former joints.
