EFFECT OF LOW WATER TO BINDER RATIO ON PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE WITH METAKAOLIN

The performance of concrete containing metakaolin (MK) at a low water to binder ratio of 0.3 is investigated. The replacement level of cement with MK ranged from 0%~20%MK. Concrete specimens were either cured in water or in air at 20℃. Compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (V), Dynamic Modulus of Elasticity (E<,d>) and length change testing was conducted. The results indicate that the performance of MK concrete at low water to binder ratio is similar to that at higher water to binder ratios reported in a previous investigation. Also the relative strength of MK concrete shows a maximum value at about 14 days of curing. Concrete containing between 12.5 and 15%MK yields higher strength, V and E<,d> than the control and other MK mixes.
