ANALYSIS OF SEISMIC RESPONSE OF WIND TURBINE TOWER USING IDA METHOD
Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is employed in FEM evaluation of the seismic response of a hypothetical wind turbine tower. The tower is simulated by shell elements and a bilinear elastic-perfectly plastic constitutive relationship is assumed. With the spectral acceleration as intensity measure (IM), four ground motion records (El Centro, Kobe, Northridge and Tian-jin earthquakes) and three damage measures (DM), which include the maximum displacement at the top of the tower (MD), the maximum acceleration at the top of the tower (MC) and the maximum bending moment at the base of the tower (MBM), are considered in the FEM (Finite Element Method) simulation. The results indicate that the IDA curves behave linearly on the whole. But IDAs with the MBM as DM exhibit apparent nonlinearity and a typical hardening effect can be observed when the tower is excited by El Centro record.
