COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ON REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMN WRAPPED WITH FRP SHEETS
Previous studies proved that the application of FRP sheets could strengthen reinforced concrete column, but some performance parameters differed from plain concrete column wrapped by FRP sheets or reinforced concrete column without any confinement under axial or eccentric loads. Based on many collected experimental data and comparative analysis, the following results can be achieved. The buckle of longitudinal steel reduces the confinement effect of FRP sheets to core concrete in square section, and the weakening coefficient increases with the enhancement of lateral confinement, but has no influence on circular concrete section. The stability coefficient of length-to-diameter ratio of the reinforced concrete column differs from that of the reinforced concrete column confined by FRP sheets. The characteristic of bending mo-ment-axial load interaction curve of columns changes due to external confinement, and relative critical eccentricity diminishes. Axial load-eccentricity-enhancement- coefficient of reinforced concrete column with confinement becomes large compared to that without confinement. The above results can guide rehabilitation design and perfect calculating theory for FRP-confined concrete.
