DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH ON BUCKLING-RESTRAINED BRACES IN APPLICATION OF ENERGY DISSIPATION AND VIBRATION REDUCTION
Buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) have been widely used into steel frame structures to reduce seismic damage. Differencing from conventional bracing that exhibits Euler buckling under compressive force, BRBs show higher energy absorption capacity when subjected to tension and compression. Firstly, the history of research on BRBs is reviewed. Then the behavior of BRBs component and performance of BRBs system are described on the basis of large-scale tests and numerical analysis. At last, some seismic design procedures of buckling-restrained braced frame (BRBF) are presented. The application for new steel buildings and seismic retrofit of existing buildings mentioned in this paper indicates using BRBs will become increasingly popular.
