EXPERIMENT RESEARCH OF CONCRETE CRACK USING PIEZOELECTRIC SENSOR
Self-developing piezoelectric ceramic transducers were applied to monitor the crack of concrete beam in this paper. Two sensors were embedded in the area including the most damage position in each beam. During the loading test, the sensors were individually used for sensing and actuating according to the direct and converse piezoelectric effect. Sine burst signal containing six wave cycles was modulated by Hanning window in order to avoid the leakage of energy. Elastic wave propagation through the monitored area changed with load. That is, with the increasing of load, the amplitude and velocity of the elastic wave gradually decreased and accompanied by frequency dispersion. Further, damage index based on wavelet package analysis indicated the change quantitatively. Result showed that the elastic wave actuating by the piezoelectric ceramic transducers built in concrete was effective to monitor the crack of concrete.
