Synthesis of large crystals of zeolite EMT and zeolite Y with elevated nSi/nAl-ratio
Large crystals of zeolite EMT with nSi/nAl = 3.5 to 3.8 were synthesized using 18-crown-6 as the structure-directing agent (SDA) and NaF as a mineralizer. By reducing the periods of gel ageing and homogenization or by increasing the SDA content of a previously reported synthesis, the crystal size of zeolite EMT could be increased from 2 to 3 μm up to 14.0 μm. With crystallization seeds, crystals with a size of 9.0 μm and large amounts of overgrowth were obtained. Crystals of zeolite Y with a size of up to 11.6 μm were also formed with an increased quantity of 15-crown-5 as the SDA. In this case, the crystallization was retarded and the resulting crystals were, again, covered by overgrowth.
