Studies on synthesis and catalytic activity of aluminum-free zeolite Zn-β

A new zeolite Zn-β was synthesized by using tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) as an organic template, fumed silica (SiO2) and zinc dichloride (ZnCl2) as silica and zinc sources, respectively. The molar chemical composition of initial gels was 60SiO2: 1.0ZnO: (16~17) (TEA)2O: (1.0~3.5)Na2O: (600~1000)H2O, and they were statically heated at 413K for 254h. The chemical composition of the as-synthesized zeolite Zn-β samples was determined by means of chemical analysis and ICP methods. The crystalline-phase identification was carried out by XRD. Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine crystal size and morphology. The samples were further characterized by FTIR. The catalytic properties of zeolite Zn-β for hydroxylation of phenol have been studied.
