Activity and stability of (Al-Fe) pillared montmorillonite catalysts for wet hydrogen peroxide oxidation of p-coumaric acid
p-Coumaric acid oxidation by hydrogen peroxide was performed on (Al-Fe)-pillared montmorillonite. The catalysts were characterized by DRX, TPR, BET surface area and chemical analysis techniques. The (Al-Fe) pillared clay has shown good performances towards the total p-coumaric acid oxidation , without significant leaching of Fe ions, in rather mild experimental conditions (atmospheric pressure, T=70°C) and with low excess of hydrogen peroxide. p-Coumaric acid was rapidly converted, mainly to CO2. The effects of catalyst loading, H2O2 concentration, temperature and analyte concentration on p-coumaric removal and total organic carbon (TOC) conversion, were investigated. A plausible explanation is proposed for the influence of these parameters, both mechanistic and kinetic factors being accounted for.
