Bio-inspired coordination chemistry of copper (II) complexes grafted in mesostructure porous silica
Tripodal amino copper complexes grafted in mesoporous LUS type silica have been prepared using a multi step approach. The amino-chelate group has been incorporated either directly from diethylenetriaminepropyltriethoxysilane, or stepwise from bromopropyl tether that has been derivated by nucleophilic substitution by bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (DPA). Copper(II) is introduced from ethanol solutions. Characterization performed at each synthesis step using a panel of techniques (including XRD, N2-adsorption-desorpton, 13C and 29Si MAS-NMR, ESR, DR-UV-Visible and EXAFS) confirms the integrity of the porous nanostructure of the silica and the formation of pentacoordinated Cu(II) ions of CuN3X2 entities in the range of 2- 6 wt%.
