Investigation of the Earth Gravitational Field by the Satellite Gradiometry Methods

The method of solving the application problem for satellite gravity variometers for constructing high accuracy models of the Earth gravitational potential is suggested. The scientific and technical achievements of the CSRI ELEKTROPRIBOR in the development of the marine gravity variometer form the basis for elaborating this satellite gradiometer complex. The sensitive element of this device contains the non-contact magnetic suspension of the arms of the gravitational balance, the optical electronic sensors for its tracking in the vacuum chamber and the control elements of its motion around four degrees of freedom. The precision of measurements of the gravity gradient tensor diagonal components is supposed to be of the order of 10<-2> E.U. The gravity variometer complex for low orbiting satellites is designed as a double-level system. The first level performs the satellite levelling with the aid of an indicator of gravity gradient stabilization, which can use the sensitive elements providing the accuracy eqivalent to that of the terrain gravity variometers. The second level device represents a set of high precision gravity variometers measuring the diagonal components of the gravity gradient tensor.
