The Analysis on Dynamical Characteristics of the Underwater Reverberation
This paper raises the idea of modeling oceanic reverberation as an observation of a nonlinear deterministic system by the dynamics. The purpose is getting a new look to the reverberation. The dynamical analysis of the reverberation observation, including the reconstructed phase space and the maximum Lyapunov exponent are presented at first. The observation data are collected from some specific experiments in the laboratory cistern, the lake and the ocean. The consistent results subject to the different observations show that the dimension of reconstructed phase space is 4 or 5, the less noise contained in the observation the smaller dimension. In the visual 3-dimensional phase space, the reconstructed attractor of the reverberation exhibits round structure, which contradicts to the irregular distribution of noise and is comparable to the regular circle of periodic wave. The maximum Lyapunov exponent is positive (0<λ1<0.3bits/iteration). All results in quality or in quantity indicate that the reverberation can be modeled by low dimensional dynamical method indeed.
