A Bottom Detecting Method Using Multi-subarrays in Multi-beam Bathymetric System

Multi-beam bathymetric system is a new generation of echo sounder used in modem bathymetric survey. A multi-beam bottom detecting method which is using multi-subarrays based on the super-wide coverage of multi-beam bathymetric system is argued in this paper. As the generalization of aperture splitting method, it can be used to estimate the echos direction of arrival (DOA) from bottom. The depth of the ocean can be calculated from the information of phase by image transformation. This method is used in data processing of the field experiment of the swath bathymetric system produced by nation. The conclusion show that, because of the realization of echo estimating combined DOA with TOA, and the addition of angle of beam controlled based on FFT beamforming, the multi-subarrays method is adaptive to multi-beam system that can realize the super-wide coverage and improve the resolution.
