Design of Underwater Voice Communications System
This paper deals with the design of a digital underwater voice communication system. Digital techniques can achieve a synthesized speech with a good quality. The speech transmission rate is compressed down to 6.3Kbits/s using a TrueSpeech Co- processor (CT8020). The bit rate is expected to be about 8Kbits/s after channel coding. A QPSK modulation with differential was chosen to transmit the useful signal. At the receiver we used a scheme where synchronization and equalization were jointly optimized. The whole system has been implemented on DSPs (CT8020+TIs DSP).
