The Application of DDS in a Versatile Data Acquisition Card

This dissertation attempts to approach a versatile Data Acquisition (DAQ) card by using Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) devices. The DDS devices uses advanced digital technique and can generate precise sinusoidal signal whose frequency can be continuously tuned. We use this signal as the sampling clock in our DAQ card, and other modern techniques have been used in this DAQ card: PCI bus as the interface between the DAQ and the host, a 30,000 gate FPGA as the glue logic, a efficient VXD device driver has been developed which is apt to program. In conclusion, this DAQ card can sample 4 channels of analog signal with continuously tuned sample rate from 2Ksps to 4Msps.
