Application of Morphological Filter in Underwater Acoustic Image Processing System
Because of the complexity of the underwater acoustic channel, the images got by the imaging sonar have poor qualities comparing with the characteristics of low resolution and misshapen target edges and so on. It isnt suitable to process the underwater acoustic images with many conventional processing methods. To provide credible information for the subsequent recognizing, morphological filters are put forward to process underwater acoustic images in this paper. According to the need of recognizing the target, a set of criterions is introduced, and on the basis of these criterions, the effects of morphological filters and traditional filtering methods on underwater acoustic images are studied. The practical applications show that the morphological filters are better than traditional ones for processing this kind of images. The advantages of the morphological methods are also in their parallelism and facility of implementation with hardware, and it has great potentials in real-time images processing systems.
