Design and Implementation of a 3D Imaging Sonar
The design of hardware and Software of a 3D imaging sonar is discussed in this paper. The hardware is composed of 2D acoustic receiving and transmitting arrays, 128 channel electronic conditioners, 128 parallel A/D converters, buffer, interface, DSPs and PC as a platform. The software comprises the model of beamforming and focusing algorithms and the parallel structure of DSP computing. Although the 3D imaging sonar is designed at first for an AUV, it is a useful inspection tool on a large scale in underwater engineering.
