An Efficient Algorithm for Time Delay Estimation in Shallow Water
The time delay estimation in the multipath channel is a traditionally research topic in underwater acoustics. It is widely used in ocean tomography and source localization. In this paper, a conceptually simple and computationally efficient algorithm is presented for the well-known time delay estimation problem. This method is a relaxation-based maximizing method of a generalized autocorrelation estimator cost function. It can be applied to detecting and classifying the received pulse signals in shallow water. Experimental examples are provided to demonstrate the performance of this algorithm.
