Correction of Sound Velocity in a Long Baseline Acoustic Positioning System
In an underwater channel, sound rays often propagate along a bended curve because of the sound velocity varying with depth, which would cause great range error in a positioning system. So the correction of sound velocity must be considered carefully to get a better position accuracy. The paper presents an iteration algorithm for correcting the sound velocity in a long baseline positioning systesm. Lake experiments show that the correction is effective. The method can also be applied to other positioning systems.
