Development of the Data-base of a Learning System for the Descriptive Geometry

In the lessons of descriptive geometry, the students are required to understand the characteristics and positional relationships of figures such as lines, planes or solids, placed third-dimensionally, by drawing them two-dimensionally onto the drawing paper. It is said that students find it difficult, until they become used to this subject, to reconstruct a third-dimensional figure from its information two-dimensionally described, and that they also find it difficult to describe the movements of figures operated in the third-dimensional space. The author developed the software which displays the problem and its answer of the descriptive geometry. The question and its answer are described by character command and data in some text file. The author made about 50 questions and their answers. This is the data base of descriptive geometry problems. This system does help students understand descriptive geometry and find it easier to learn it.
