Occurrence and Removal of Estrogens in Municipal Sewage Sludge

For endocrine disrupting chemicals ubiquitous in the environment, concerns arise about their harm to wildlife and human health in recent years. They are released to the environment via municipal sewage treatment plants. The removal of endocrine disrupters in sewage treatment is dependent on their inherent physicochemical properties of the pollutants, mainly through adsorption to the sludge. The occurrence and removal efficiency in sewage treatment process are discussed in this article to optimize the current disposal process of municipal sludge and propose to the management of the municipal sludge.
