Modeling the Wet Spinning of Synthetic Fiber from Polymer Solutions

The study under review is devoted to a mathematical model of non-isothermal gel formation. This model includes the following: a diagram of the phase balance of the polymer-solvent-coagulant system, the heat transfer processes, the temperature dependence of the diffusion processes, the existence of the bi- phase layered structure and the change of the fibre size during the process. This model describes the process of chemical fiber wet spinning. Three gelation mechanisms of fibre spinning from polymer solutions are under discussion. They are diffusive, thermotropic, mechanotropic. We have constructed mathematical analytical models for the diffusive and thermotropical gel formation of jets from polymer solutions. The rule for the gel thickness in relation to time has been laid down and estimates of the characteristic time for the gel formation process in each separate mechanism have been obtained.
