Mechanism of Pre-Mordant Wool Fabric with Alum and Natural Dye Flos Sophorae Buds

China has long history in the field of dyeing fabrics with natural dye Flos Sophorae Buds (FSB) by handwork. By alum pre-mordant method, the dyed wool fabrics with FSB dye show the bright yellow color and acceptable color fastness properties. The amount ratio of alum mordant to FSB dye is investigated by changing amount of alum mordant in actual pre-mordant processes and mixing solutions of both components to prepare alum-rutin complexes. It shows that the stoichiometric ratio of the alum-rutin complex is about 1:1 and the ratio is helpful to the application of FSB dye in modem industry.
