Novel Approach to Toughen Polylactide by Aligning the Lamellae in Crystal Phase
The toughening of PLA has gained much attention based on blending and copolymerization. The tensile properties however cant hold when the impact resistance is enhanced. In this paper, we found a novel approach to toughen PLA by aligning the lamellae in crystal phase and the tensile performance can hold. A series of testing method were applied, including impact, tensile and SEM. The results suggests that the impact resistance of PLA has a blooming rise, and the spherulite and lamellae align along the flowing orientation of bulk PLA which play an importance role in the toughening of PLA.
