POLYMERIZATION OF PPTA IN A NOVAL SOLVENT SYSTEM
The preparation of high molecular weight Poly-p- phenylene terephthalamide (PPTA) is the chief task to obtain high performance PPTA fiber. The polycondensation of the monomer of terephthalyl chloride (TPC) and pphenylene diamine (PPDA) is processed in the novel solvent system of N- ethylpyrrolidone/calcium chloride (NEP-CaCl<,2>) at low temperature. The inherent viscosity of resultant PPTA is measured as the molecular weight of the polymer, which is highly related with the monomer concentration, mole ratio of monomers, water content in the solvent system and calcium chloride (CaCl<,2>) content.
